For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven”

I love the concept of seasons, both in nature and in life. It gives me peace somehow to view a time of my life that I'm maybe not enjoying so much as a season, rather than permanent. Of course, I might not know how long that season will last and I need to be okay with that, but the longer I live, the more I realize how fast life can change...for the better or for the worse. It's so easy to go through our days thinking that how today is is how it will always be. The job we have, the house we live in, the status of a dating relationship or singleness....whatever it may be can change just as quickly as nature's seasons. So take a deep breath and choose to enjoy today.

One of the ways we're going to enjoy today is learning how to find joy in the seasons of nature. This is by far one of my favorite of the good gifts the Lord has given to us! If you live in Southern California like me, you'll know we pretty much have two seasons: hot fire season or somewhere in the 60's-70's with a slight chance of rain. But I still get so excited when the seasons change!

Grab a pen and jot down three ways you can enjoy each season. Think about what happens in your area of the country during each season...some of you may not live near the beach for the summer but you might have some really cool festival or fair nearby, etc.

Here's some of my favorites:

Summer

  1. Trips to the beach
  2. Ice cream indulging (especially soft-serve)
  3. The possibility of working on my non-existent tan

But the thing I really love about summer is the fact that Fall, my absolute favorite, is coming!

Fall

  1. Boots and scarves
  2. Pumpkin everything
  3. Cooler weather after the oppressive heat of So Cal summer

Winter

  1. Christmas decorations
  2. Christmas lights
  3. Christmas music ... pretty much everything Christmas!

Spring

  1. New flowers everywhere
  2. More fruit in the stores
  3. Easter Sunday and maybe a new Easter dress

Most of these are things that don't cost a lot of money and you really don't have to go too far out of your way to enjoy. If you do a google search of your town or city, you could find more activities and fun things to do, festivals to attend, cool places to hang out, theme parks or zoos to visit (depending on how much money you want to spend), etc. I always found it really easy to become a hermit when I was single and to not really want to do anything...but when I got out and did things, it made me feel a little better about life! Just because you don't have a boyfriend to do things with doesn't mean you should wait to start enjoying life. Grab a friend, a sibling, a parent! Befriend other single girls and encourage them. Get a group of guys and girls together. Get your family together to do something. The possibilities and ways to find joy in nature's seasons are endless.

Much love, Maegan
